God's Word

The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever. ~Isaiah 40:8

But the word of the Lord endures forever. ~1 Peter1:25

Several days ago I was over reading another blog which dealt with the infallibility of God's Word, the Bible. I've skipped around to different sites and have certainly picked up different thoughts on the Bible being trustworthy. It grieves me when I hear or read things like this. Maybe one reason I feel so strongly about it is because of where I live. It is not uncommon to hear statements like "The Bible is correct in so far as it is translated correctly." What grieves me is when I hear of believers who do not believe everything the Bible says.

How does one pick and choose what to believe in the Bible? If it sounds nice and right in your way of thinking, then that's a "go?" When one runs across something that causes him to cringe, that must not be truthful? If you cannot believe in what the Bible says, then, how can you trust what Christ promises you for salvation? Where on earth did you hear about Him dying on the Cross to enable you to become part of God's family if it wasn't from the Bible? I know people who harbor doubts concerning the accuracy of the Bible. Many go so far as to reject the Bible, for all intents and purposes, as a book that can't be trusted.

It seems obvious to me that the Lord Jesus believed that the Scriptures were truly and really "the words of God." Often in disputing with the Jews, Jesus said, "Have you not read what God spoke to you saying, 'I am the God of Abraham and the God of Issac and the God of Jacob?'" I have not been able to find any place where Christ ever "corrected" the Old Testament Scriptures. Each time He quotes the Old Testament writings, He accepts what they say without question, and expects all others to have the same attitude.

Second Timothy 3:16-17 states "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." The word used there, in the Greek is "God-breathed." All Scripture is God-breathed, and is profitable...." You see, the Bible is our standard for testing everything else that claims to be true. It is our safeguard against false teachings and our source of guidance for how we should live. It is our only source of knowledge about how we can be saved.

Paul describes the Scriptures as "God-breathed." The term which is commonly translated as "inspired" literally means that the Scriptures find their origin, their source, in God Himself. They are like the breath of God Himself, coming forth from His mouth. Please note the the Bible is not here speaking of how the writers were led by God to write what they did, but that what they wrote was "inspired" or "God-breathed." God used men to write His Word, but He did so in such a way as to insure that what was written was word-for-word what He had intended from eternity past. My God, the God of the Bible, is big enough to use men to write His message and, at the same time see to it that the resultant revelation is not mixed with error or untruth.

Now, let's look for a moment at the manner in which the holy men of God were chosen by God to write the Scriptures. Second Peter 1:20-21 states "But know this first of all, that no prophesy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God." Here Peter is discussing not the interpretation of the test, but the origin and surety of the text. He asserts that the prophesies of Scripture (he is not speaking simply of prophesies in the sense of predictions of future events, but the whole proclamation of the truth of God) never came about simply by human impulse or through human thinking. God's revelation has never found its origin in the will of man. In other words, these men spoke from God while being carried along by the Holy Spirit of God. What they said came from God, and as they spoke these things, they were being carried along by the Spirit of God. Obviously, the Holy Spirit would not have led these men into error. That means that the Apostles, just as Jesus Christ, believed in the inerrancy of the Biblical text.

Okay, I understand there are people who would agree that the Bible as it was originally written was the perfect and complete Word of God. They may now feel, over time, that the Bible has been changed, or things lost.

People say that the Bible has been translated over and over and over again. In one sense that is true but one needs to look at translation in the proper sense. Often people mean that the Bible was translated from one language into another, and then from another and so on. That would be very reminescent of the game played by children where one person begins by whispering a phrase to the person next to them, who in turns whispers the phrase to the one next to them and so on. By the time the phrase is repeated at the end of the game it has changed quite a bit. This is not what has happened with the Bible.
When speaking of the history of the Bible and how it came to us the word is "transmission," transmission of the text over time. For about the first 1500 years of what is commonly refered to as the "Christian era," the text was transmitted by hand copying, from one manuscript to another. Today we have over 25,000 (maybe more) hand written manuscripts of the New Testament alone. And, of these, over 5,000 are written n the original language of the New Testament, Greek.
Now, translation is the process whereby one renders a passage in one language into the words of another language. Let's say you had a Bible verse written in the original Greek and we translated it into English, and wrote it down on paper. That's exactly what each of the various "versions" of the Bible are that are available today. The King James Version, the New American Standard Bible, the New International Bible, etc., are each just simply a different translation of the one Bible, which was written in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. The NIV, I believe translates by "phrases" where as the NASB translates word for word. There is only one Bible, while there are many translations of that Bible into the many languages of mankind. I really hope this sheds some light on the difference between transmission and translation.
Sometimes people still misunderstand about translation and think that it has gone from Hebrew to Greek to Latin to French to German to Spanish to English. But that is incorrect. And, if it had followed that process then a lot would have been lost in the translation. The correct way for the English versions has been based directly upon the original languages, and there is but one step between the original Hebrew and Greek texts to the English translation.
An example of a mistranslated Bible would be the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society (Jehovah's Witnessess). They produce what they call The New World Translation. This I would not classify as "the word of God" for it purposefully mistranslates a number of passages that are relevant to the person of Jesus Christ. They attempt to "smuggle" the doctrines of Jehovah's Witnesses into the text of the Bible.
The Bible is the Word of God regardless of ones' opinion of it. Merely believing it doesn't make it true and disbelieving it doesn't make it untrue. Most significant of all, however, is Jesus' view of the Scripture. What did He think of it? How did He use it? If we can answer these questions, we have the answer from the incarnate Word of God Himself, the One about whom the Bible spoke.
Jesus' attitude was transparently open about the Old Testament. He states emphatically, "I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished" (Matthew 5:18). He quoted Scripture as final authority, often introducing the statement with the phrase, "It is written," as in His encounter with Satan in the temptation in the wilderness (Matthew 4).
Look at when He first began teaching, He sat in the synagogue and read Isaiah 61:1-2. This was 800 years old. When He finished reading He said, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing." Perhaps His most sweeping endorsement and acceptance of the Old Testament was when He declared with finality, "The Scripture cannot be broken" (John 10:35). If, then, we acknowledge Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, it would be a contradiciton in terms, and strangely inconsistent, if we rejected the Scripture as the Word of God. This would find us in diagreement with the One Savior whom we acknowledge to be the eternal God, the Creator of the universe.
In days of uncertainty the Scriptures and character of the One who inspired them give us a firm rock on which to stand, intellectually and spiritually! "Heaven and earth will pass away," says the Lord God, "but my words will never pass away" (Luke 21:33).

Update on Nana

I do believe she has missed fever so far today. She has slept so much it has been difficult to get the temp taken. She is still experiencing the shooting pain down the nerve in her head so she is taking tylenol with codeine for that (which is why she is sleeping so much). Also, because the antibiotic makes her sick to her stomach she is still experiencing that. But, I do believe her back is better which means the antibiotic is attacking the infection. When I spoke with the doctor today I found out that everyone would get nauseous with this medication. If we can make it through the weekend I believe she will be well on her way to a full recovery.

We have cancelled all plans for this weekend. I've been taking her meals to her in her room but she isn't eating very much since she is so sick at her stomach. I'm making her drink. She knows that she needs to drink but she heaves after drinking water so she really doesn't want to drink. Vicious cycle.

What time of day are you?

You Are Sunrise

You enjoy living a slow, fulfilling life. You enjoy living every moment, no matter how ordinary.
You are a person of reflection and meditation. You start and end every day by looking inward.
Caring and giving, you enjoy making people happy. You're often cooking for friends or buying them gifts.
All in all, you know how to love life for what it is - not for how it should be.
Thanks, and a tip of the hat to Kim over at The Upward Call.

A Good Day..

What a greatf day! We had rain overnight and early this morning which is exciting because it didn't turn to snow!!! Yea!!! Hooray!!! I needed to run an errand with hubby and when we returned home it was time to take Nana to her dentist appointment.

The other night, I believe it was last Tuesday, while we were eating dinner I saw a chunck of 'something' fall onto her plate and make a noise. Turns out it was half of her front tooth! Then she tells me that two other pieces had already come off the other day. She was dreading this appointment because she thought she would need a shot etc., and that maybe the dentist would have to pull her tooth. But, she needed no shot, and he was able to build another tooth on to the left over part that remained in her mouth. She was thrilled! And when we came out the sun was shining. Since she hadn't had a shot she was able to eat so we stopped at Sizzler for their salad bar. It's one of her favorite places to eat. After our 2 hour dinner we are finally home where I can collapse!!! Just in time to watch my show tonight! ;D

I have a few minutes to check out some of my favorite blogs....catch you later.

Compassion and prayer

A few days ago I read an interesting and convicting post over at Daily Life in a Homeless Shelter which generated many thought provoking comments. Then, as the Lord so often does, our post today at Christian Chapter Chat kind of dealt with some of the same aspects of RWK's post, at least involving mercy/compassion etc. Well, all of the above has caused me to think more deeply about compassion.

In my mind, spiritual compassion has in it the quality of mercy. It's nature may be of pity, but it moves the soul, filling it with feelings of tenderness for others. Compassion is moved at the sight of sin, sorrow, and suffering. It stands at the exact opposite extreme of indifference to the wants and woes of others. It is far, far removed from the insensibility and hardness of the heart that can show up in the midst of need and trouble and outright wretchedness. I see compassion standing beside sympathy for others, showing interest in others and, is concerned about them as people.

What excites and moves compassion to work? So often a person will catch sight of multitudes in want and distrss, helpless to relieve themselves of the circumstances they are experiencing. I do believe that compassion is drawn to hopelessness. Compassion is silent but it does not remain secluded. Compassion begins reaching out at the first sign of trouble, sin, or need. When a person sees (or hears) of others in need, sympathy arises and pours out in earnest prayer for them. Prayer for others is born of a sympathetic heart. In fact, prayer is natural and almost spontaneous when compassion is born in one's heart. Prayer belongs to compassionate people.

Don't get me wrong. There is a certain compassion that belongs to people who do not know Christ, that is, the natural man. It expends its force in simple gifts to those in need and should not be despised by anyone. But, spiritual compassion, the kind born in a renewed heart, which is Christlike in its very nature, is deeper, broader, and more prayerlike. I find that the compassion of Christ always moves a person to prayer. This sort of compassion goes beyond the relief of mere physical wants. It reaches deeper down and goes much further.

Compassion isn't blind at all. Rather, the person who has compassion of the soul has eyes to see the very things which excite compassion. Remember it said of the Lord, "Seeing the people He felt compassion for them" (Matthew 9:36). First He saw the multitudes with their hunger, their woes, their helpless condition; then He experienced compassion which moved Him to pray for them. It is a hardened man, and far from being like Christ, who sees the multitudes but is unmoved at the sight of their troubles. He is a person who has no heart of prayer for people.

People may not always be moved by compassion but compassion always moves toward people. And, it may not always turn people to God, but it will and does turn God to men. While compassion may be helpless to relieve a need, it can, at the very least, break out into prayer to God for others. When I think about compassion I think it is never indifferent, nor is it selfish, or forgetful of others. It's focus is on others only.

However, compassion doesn't just deal with the body and its disabilities and needs. It also moves toward the soul's distressing state. One's soul has needs and this does appeal to compassion. This type of compassion belongs to grace and sees not only the bodies of people, but their souls, as well, soiled by sin, unhappy in their condition without God, and in danger of being forever lost. When a compassionate believer sees the sight of dying people, then they break out into intercessions for those people before the throne of grace.

One reason why we, as sinners, are not consumed by God's wrath is found in Lamintations 3:22-23, "The LORD'S lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness." This quality is what makes us so much like God. I am also reminded of Psalm 145:8, "The LORD is gracious and merciful; slow to anger and great in lovingkindness." Really, it's no wonder the Word records of Christ that He "was moved with compassion." How could anyone doubt that His compassion moved Him to pray for those suffering who came across His path?

Now, if He is filled with such compassion that it moves Him, seated at His Father's right hand, to intercede on our behalf, then by all means we should have the same compassion on those around us and be on our knees praying for them. Compassion isn't enough to simply say, "Here, take this" but it should also drive us to our knees for those who need Christ and His grace.

May our compassion be far more than the physical needs, may we also have eyes for the spiritual needs around us.

A Physician Analyzes the Crucifixion....

I know Easter is over but I was visiting Gina over at Refreshment in Refuge and found an excellent article that she had posted on 04/13/06. I've copied and pasted just the very beginning of the article here but I hope you will go drop in at her place (just click on Refreshment in Refuge above, and then, scroll down to her entry for April 13, 2006)) and read the rest of the article.

Our pastor preached on this same topic a number of years ago. I would hazard a guess that there are not many people who truly understand what He went through during the last hours of His life. Go. Read it. Come back and tell me what you think.

A Physician Analyzes the Crucifixion

(Originally published in Arizona Medicine, March 1965, Arizona Medical Association. A medical explanation of what Jesus endured on the day He died.)

By Dr. C. Truman Davis

Dr. C. Truman Davis is a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. He is a practicing ophthalmologist, a pastor, and author of a book about medicine and the Bible.

Several years ago I became interested in the physical aspects of the passion, or suffering, of Jesus Christ when I read an account of the crucifixion in Jim Bishop’s book, The Day Christ Died. I suddenly realized that I had taken the crucifixion more or less for granted all these years - that I had grown callous to its horror by a too-easy familiarity with the grim details...

If you could have starred in any movie, which one would you have wanted to be in and why?

Oh my goodness! I have no idea which movie. It would have to be a good one, and I think probably a funny one, or at least one that has several funny parts. The best part would be the rehearsals where practicing the lines could be a riot of laughs!

Main Course
What is an expectation you had as a child about being an adult and, now that you are grown up, you realize you were wrong?

I can remember thinking, "When I'm a mom I would never do "this" to my child!" Boy, was I living in a fairy tale setting. Once I became a parent I understood the need for discipline, covered in love. I never realized exactly how much praying went in to rearing children either!

Dessert
When was the last time you had your car serviced?

It's due for its oil change right now, so that would be 3000 miles ago.

Lobster for Dinner....

The birthday celebration meal of lobster (them) and steak (me) was a huge success! I had never fixed lobster before and only knew of the boiling method. The butcher guy told me that with the boiling you lose some of the flavor. His recommendation (which I thought must be good because he began drooling as he told me what to do) was to put the tails (ours were around 5 to 5 1/2 ou. ea.) in a 2 in deep pan, along with a melted stick of butter and minced garlic cloves. For four tails I did one stick of butter and 5 garlic cloves minced. Then you cover with foil and bake in your oven at 275 degrees for about 20-25 minutes (they will turn pink and the tail will just begin to curl). Serve with more melted butter. Both, hubby and Nana said it was so good and are already planning when we can have them again. I didn't think they were too expensive...$3.99 per tail. My steak was fabulous and I'll fix them lobster anytime as long as I have my steak! :D

I'll be back to post more later but I am off to my second funeral for this week. Catch you later!

Random meme....

Thanks to Claire Joy over at Flavor of the Month for this meme.

Random thing meme: List six random things about yourself and then tag six more of your bloggy friends.

1. I can't sing at all....I do make a joyful noise, especially if I am by myself!

2. In high school, people would think I was stuck up when in fact, I couldn't see them. If I didn't have my contacts on or, my glasses, then I was totally blind....and people would expect me to greet them when I passed them but actually, I never even saw them. I am the least stuck up person you could ever meet....

3. Obviously, if you have read my post recently, you know I have lost part of my mind, if not all of it.

4. I hate to wear shoes. I love the warmer weather so I can at least wear sandals.

5. I have a passion for the Lord and desire others to know Him, too.

6. You would not have liked me before I became a Christian.

A new mind?

Okay, do you want to know how my day began? The alarm goes off and, naturally, I hit the snooze. Finally, I drag myself out and look to see if the snow has begun. I begin getting ready, hubby gets up and gets ready and we are out the door to drive to Centerville, about a 35 min drive in good weather. Well, it's snowing and sleeting like a regular WINTER storm! We do arrive by 9:00 am for our appointment, which is scheduled for.....

11:00 and 11:15.

ACK!!!!

May I repeat that? ACK!!!!!

Hubby looks over at me, I look at the gal and say, "We have a funeral at 11:00. I thought we were at 9:00 this morning." *sigh*

We are now rescheduled for 2 weeks at 11:00 am and 11:15. On the other hand, we were able to take our time to get to the funeral and I am now home for the day! The snow may come down all it wants! The refrig is full, the house is warm, what more could I need? What's that? A new mind? Hush! Right now! Don't say another word!

Of course I need a NEW MIND!!!! What woman over 50 doesn't??????

We interupt this program.....

Good Monday morning, everyone! I trust you each had a glorious Easter! We did!

Six Weird Things About Me...

I was hopping around the blogosphere and finding it a little slow. Then I dropped in over at Carol's place at She Lives. She had found the same thing. However, she did find a meme over at a friend of hers.

Tell Us Six Weird Things About Yourself

1. I sleep with the fan on above my bed, no matter what season it is. I'm not as bad as my dear friend who carries her own personal fan with her when she travels. *wink*

2. I cannot begin working in the kitchen unless everything is put away and cleaned up. I absolutely hate to begin with a mess.

3. I am a perfectionist who procrastinates.

4. I cannot stand boiled or microwaved hotdogs. They must be broiled (with a touch of the charred on edges) or done on the grill. When I was little my girlfriend, Jenny would come over to my house to eat hot dogs because her mother always boiled them. But, I loved going over to her house because they had Hi-C fruit punch to drink! Lol!

5. I don't eat in restaurants alone, even if I have a good book.

6. I don't eat tuna fish unless it is the white albacore packed in water and I always put apple in my tuna salad, along with pickle and celery.

I don't own any movie soundtracks.

How much cash do you usually carry with you?
Cash? What is that? Oh, that green stuff and those round things that clink. It all depends, but probably $25.00.

Salad
Are you more comfortable around men or women? Why?
Either. We have been blessed with several couple friendships where we are great friends with both the husband and wife. Truly a blessing! But, I have some very deep friendships with several ladies and I can't help but think that is because we pray together. When you go together before the throne of grace to intercede for one another you can't help but grow deeper in your relationship.

Main Course
What is the most mischievous thing you remember doing as a child?
Hmmm...*blush*well, I guess it was when I set fire to a roll of cotton in the linen closet in the bathroom when we lived in Germany. *cough* What a mess! All because I wanted to see how fast cotton would burn. I think I was about 7. I got in BIG trouble. But, maybe that isn't mischievious. So, when I was in kindergarden I attended at our church. Every. single. day. my friend, Jan, and I would sneak away from the classrooms downstairs and go hide in the sanctuary upstairs, in the exact same spot. Every time. They would come looking for us and I would give our "position" away by my giggles. Every time. :D I can tell this story now that Pilot is an adult and out of school. Heaven forbid if I ever planted the idea of truancy in his mind! Lol!

Who is the funniest member of your family?
By far my husband but our son, Pilot, comes in at a pretty close second.

Oh No!

The physical therapist had just left, Nana's eggs were done and she was pushing her plate across the counter so as not to have to carry it. All of a sudden I hear a tremendous noise and I knew, deep down in my heart, I knew she was falling....I quickly ran upstairs and she was prostrate on the hard kitchen floor. Praise the Lord, she has no broken bones, just bruises. Obviously, she is shaken. She really doesn't know exactly what happened...she was turning, she thinks, and just lost her balance. So far, there doesn't appear to be any bruises on her face. After the last two falls, that is a welcome relief in her mind. We'll see how she looks later this afternoon. She will be sore deep inside for several days.

The Beauty of Aging Gracefully

Years ago I had a problem with aging. I was only 22 years old. My 22nd birthday felt like it was my 40th or 50th birthday. You see, when we are small it is exciting to look forward. "I'm 6, almost 7." One looks forward to being 13 where finally, they have become a teenager. Then there is 16. You can finally get your driver's license. Oh yes, 18 and voting! Then there is the twentieth birthday. Great birthday because you are no longer counted as a 'teenager.' Finally, there comes 21. A true adult age by many people's standard.

When I turned 22 it was terrible. What was there to look forward to but growing old. All I heard was panic in the voices of the people who turned 30, or 40 or, ACK! 50!

I was a fairly new Christian. I didn't come to know the Lord personally until I was 18. But, I truly had no desire to live a life of fear. Fear of growing old. My sister (who is 9 yrs older than I) had many conversations with me regarding my outlook which really bordered on fear.

Yes, there is a fear and a reason for this fear, but I didn't need to be bound by it. It is the goal that makes the difference. The person who really vacillates is circumstance conditioned and has no point of reference for her reactions to whatever happens to her. On the other hand, the maturely flexible woman is really moving forward in the turmoil of outer changes because her reactions are determined by the inner goal of her life.

If one isn't flexible, they become brittle, rigid and break. I think of a body having rigor mortis on the inside while their bodies live on. I didn't want to be like this. I did not want to be a burden on my family or my friends.

Israel was in just such a condition as I was. (See Ezekiel 37:1-14) "...and down into the middle of the valley; and it was full of bones. He cause me to pass among them round about, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the valley; and lo, they were very dry. And He said to me, ' Son of man, can these bone live?' and I answered, 'O Lord God, You know.' Again He said to me, 'Prophesy over these bones and say to them, 'O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.'......"

Ezekiel prophesied as he was commanded and the bones came together into bodies, but there was no breath in them. Ezekiel prophesied again and "breath came into them, and they came to life and stood on their feet, an exceedingly great army." Now, I realize that this is a pretty gruesome picture but I do see something pictured here, and that is hope. This story was a message for the people who had given up hope for their country and for God's interest in them. I have that same Lord God, but I know even more about Him because of Jesus Christ. So I have even greater reason for hope when He promises, "I will put my Spirit within you, and you shall live."

To live and keep on living there must be continuous change. This change comes in the process of renewal. This is true physically. The healthy body is being constantly renewed. This is also just as true mentally and spiritually. There is so much in God's Word about renewal of life. God never changes, but our minds must be open to new knowledge or grow stagnant. When we quit growing we begin to die. Renewal can come to anyone at any time by turning to God in faith.

God wants, with all His longing heart, to give us His best. Can you think of anything that might make your later years more livable than to know you have God's best for them? The best is yet to come for us all, if we are ready for it. To be ready means to set a goal and keep it and press on, as Paul suggests, toward that goal....our ears tuned to God's harmony, and our minds and spirits flexible enough to enter into that harmony. The only assurance we can have that we are growing toward more of life and that we are not slipping into dead ways is through a living relationship with a living Lord through the power of the Holy Spirit.

I found the Secret of Life...Christ in me. I will never be left stranded, no matter what happens. Even though my body changes over the years (ugh) and many of my activities cease, this inner life becomes more real all the time. Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 4:16, "Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. " For me, there is a growing security in this relationship I have with Christ.

The test of my faith comes when all of life's securities disappear. I understand that there is nothing secure in this world except Jesus Christ. So by being fixed on Him, I have nothing to fear as I move through the decades of life. His will for all of us in our maturing years is that we "be anointed with fresh oil, bear fruit in old age...and be very green" (Psalm 92).

It is God "who satisfies your years with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle" (Psalm 103:5). No matter what my age, I am being renewed in Him. How can I be fearful when I know He is desiring the very best for me? All I want to do is cultivate and nourish my spirit, striving to know God more intimately. May my worship be more devoted and my highest priority because it is my Spirit that will continue to live through out Eternity. I desire to give God, not my leftovers, but the ripest, sweetest fruit of aging.

This is for you, Pilot! ;p I tried to email it to you but it wouldn't ever go through. My question to you is: Don't you think this is a cousin of Grapetail? Surely it must be! Lol! Enjoy your day off today! And, CONGRATULATIONS again on your great test score! We love you!

Friday Feast

Friday Feast

Appetizer
Name a trait you share with your parents or your children.
I'm going to go with a physical trait which I share with our son, Pilot....blue eyes

Soup
List 3 qualities of a good leader, in your opinion.
A leader leads by example. A leader must be truthful. A leader understands his mission and how to articulate it.

Salad
Who is your favorite television chef?
I have no clue to who is on tv. Is there an Emeril? Or someone with a name like that who cooks?

Main Course
Share a story about a gift you received from someone you love.
Pilot made a flower pot in kindergarden or first grade. It was the kind that he was able to color and decorate on paper and then that is enclosed in acrylic. He planted a green plant in it and gave it to me for Mother's Day. I still have it by my kitchen window with the original plant. :D Lets hear an "awwwww." Lolo!

Dessert
How do you react under pressure?
I become very focused. I actually perform better when I am under pressure. Having a deadline is one of the best things for me. I'm task oriented so at times I can 'bark' out directions to the people around me.

Thursday Thirteen...

Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen Things I like to do.

1…. I love to read! Mystery novels are at the top of my list. However, I love theology books too. Actually, almost any type of book I like to read.

2.... I love a good laugh! Even if it is on me! But there really isn't anything else that tops a full all out laugh which brings tears to one's eyes.

3.... Travel. Let's go! I like to fly because of the time factor but I really love to travel by car. I like taking the back roads to see all the scenery. When I was growing up in Germany our family would take drives on the weekends just to look at the scenery. When we came back to the states we continued it.

4.... I love really great movies. Especially the ones on the BIG screen! So a movie like Pride and Prejudice would be perfect to watch on the big screen. (That's for YOU, Pilot) Lol!

5.... Counted-cross stitching I love to do, however, it has been several years since I've actually done one. I may have to remedy that. At least I could try a small one again just to see if my eyes will allow me the pleasure.

6.... Going out to eat is another favorite. Anything to get out of having to do dishes! I used to love cooking but not so much anymore.

7.... I've discovered I love blogging! Who would have ever thought? Not me! And, I actually discovered I really like figuring out what to say "behind it all" to make it "show up front" just perfect. When I get in a real bind I email my nephew who graciously comes to my rescue.

8.... Hubby and I discovered we love watching the tv show "24." From January to the end of February we watched 4 seasons of it to catch up to this current season! Now, before you go thinking that all we do is sit in front of the tv, I will say, in our defense, that was when I was so sick with the whooping cough. Truly.

9.... I love to talk on the phone with Pilot. It's the next best thing to actually getting to spend time in person. :)

10.... Rearranging my furniture is something else I like to do. Thankfully, after I've completed the deed, dh likes it.

11.... I love to play games. Card games, board games....Canasta is one of my favorite card games. Also, our family is known for our wild and crazy cutthroat Parcheesi games. Also, when the extended family gets together we are a big enough group to play Balderdash/Beyond Balderdash which is a riot! There is always tons of laughter when we begin that game!

12....I love to pray. When I'm in the car by myself it's a perfect time to spend praying. While I'm cleaning or making the bed etc, I find time to pray. Some of you may remember I've mentioned when I am using a recipe from someone I know, I pray for their family while I prepare that dish. I have a few close friends I pray with regularly.

13.... I love to study my Bible.

One week old today...

Happy One Week Old Birthday to Anna Claire! She is doing marvelously! You can get the full report from her Mom over at Psalm 127.

The one big bit of progress is being made by her youngest brother, Jonathan. If you remember he has not had any feminine pronouns in his vocabulary, hence, "That guy is crying." Now he says, "Mine baby..." His mom says he speaks a kind of King James Version English! ;D

A heads up....

Tomorrow at two minutes and three seconds after 1:00 in the morning, the time and date will be 01:02:03 04/05/06. Just thought you might like to know this little tidbit of information. You may now return to your normal life.

Changes are a coming....

For someone who loves change, like going a different way every time he gets in the car, my dear hubby hates for the furniture to be changed around. Now, I on the other hand loathe going a different way. When I worked I figured out the fastest way to and from the office. Never changed my route. Why? It was the fastest route...why go a slower way? However, I love, absolutely LOVE to rearrange my furniture. I've always done it myself when DH was out of the house and then he would come home surprised. :D

Well, I've talked him into changing our downstairs family room (the room where I posted pics of my Christmas tree). I've had to talk him into helping me because I have 5 major bookcases that have to be moved in this adventure. Not only that, but we have decided to paint too. He was all for the painting until I told him I wanted to do a wall or two in a really bold color and the rest of the walls in a very light color. Green is my predominate color in my furniture, however, I've accented a lot with red...a burgandy shade. He was adjusting to the idea of a darker green wall but when he came home this morning my friend and neighbor, Judy, was still here talking with me about what I wanted to do. I'd moved from the green idea to the red. Poor hubby. I thought he was going to faint dead on the spot! But, he rallied and did not faint away.

Later this afternoon Judy had been at the paint store for a room she is doing and picked out some color cards for me to view. She brought them by and dropped them off. I've just about decided....I'm not fully sure yet on the pale green....yes, I'm doing a pale green, almost white, but I want to look at some other choices other than what I have. The pic I've included isn't very bright but at least you may have somewhat of an idea, if you use your imagination. Lol!

For me, this is really 'stepping' out there. I love my pastels but I look in the decorating books or go to someone's home who has it all together color wise (like Judy) ;D and I think I would love to have a room like they have. But, then I chicken out. Not this time. I'm going to bravely go where I've never been before....bright, bold and beautiful!!!!

Here She is....Miss Anna Claire!!!

Here is our precious bundle of joy born this past Tuesday afternoon. Anna Claire is holding her own, I'm told, amid all those brothers of hers. Her youngest brother, Jonathan, doesn't have any feminine pronouns in his vocabulary yet so he says, "Hey, that guy is crying." Or, "That guy needs his binky." Isn't that too funny?! I'm tickled to death that we finally have a picture to show! :D Posted by Picasa

Happy Birthday, Melinda!

Today is Melinda's birthday! She is married to my nephew who blogs over at Hotel California. We have all fallen in love with Melinda and not just because she loves Dan! I understand that her hubby surprised her with a birthday get away this weekend. And guess where they will be having dinner tonight? With none other than Pilot!!! How cool is that? Dinner and the game...hopefully there will be more birthday celebrating than just the game! Hint, hint, Dan!

We love you, Melinda! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

April Fools Day!
