Update on Pilot Dad

As many of you know, Pilot Dad has not been feeling well since the end of August. We, being the medical experts that we are, thought it was thrush because of the coating on his tongue. He has had it several times throughout this ordeal known as throat cancer. He looked on his pill bottle and he still had a refill left so he got his antibiotic refilled. Normally after just a day or two of taking his antibiotic he would begin to feel much better of the thrush. But he still felt bad along with an awful taste in his mouth. In fact, he would go so far as to tell you this is the worst he has felt in all of the cancer treatment. I'm talking physically...the fatigue and general feeling of "ick" and "yucky" and to be more precise, to quote him exactly, "extremely crappy." (He is not including the pain stuff in this assessment.)

I called the radiology doctor this morning to see when we could get him in to be seen. After all, he still had the white "stuff" on his tongue and the terribly foul taste in his mouth, not to mention the extreme fatigue. How I praised the Lord because they put him in at the end of the day...but it was still today! He didn't have to wait until tomorrow!

She checks him out and tells him that she does not think he has thrush but he still needs to finish that antibiotic for the thrush. It is her thought that he has some kind of bacterial infection, hence the awful foul taste in his mouth and the general feeling of malaise. So she prescribed a different antibiotic to begin taking twice a day (amoxicillian). Hopefully this will get him back to liking the taste of food once again! And I pray he will gain some of his strength back so he can work more than his 4 hours a night. He will go back to see her two weeks from today.

We have been quite surprised because they had been telling us how fast you begin to recover once you can eat, and the radiation stops, etc. One day, all of a sudden he took a bite of something and spit it out because it tasted so awful. Once we get a few of the new antibiotics in him the food should begin to taste better again and I can go back to having a hubby who likes to eat again. I hate eating by myself!!!

I'll be blogging a little less today and tomorrow (Thursday & Friday) because we are getting new windows installed in our home! Yea!! This is the last major renovation for our home. We are done. Kaput. FINALLY!!! So, I'll be on, "lurking," and I may or may not post. I'm just pleased that our weather is going to be great for window installation. Yesterday and the day before we have had quite the storminess in our area which included flooding and trees being uprooted and, of course, the proverbial roof being torn off, and let's not forget the house struck by lightning which caused a fire! And over 50,000 homes without power! But tomorrow will be sunny and in the 70ยบ's! You can't ask for nicer weather than that!

So sorry PD is not feeling well. It can be so confusing when a new ailment creeps in...you don't know whether the problem is the original illness or there's a new one. When my son was alive, we dealt with that quite often and I would feel quite discouraged at times...feeling like I couldn't quite do enough to make things right.
I'll be praying for you today.
PS...new windows...the world will be brighter for you now!
Blessings!

Poor PD. He sure has had a long go of it, hasn't he? I hope this doc knows what she's talking about and he's back to feeling well very soon.

And push that beautiful weather my way! They keep saying its coming, its coming but then it gets up to 92 again! Doggone it!

I am glad y'all could see the doc so soon and I will remember you both in my prayers.

Enjoy your new windows and the beautiful weather. God gives blessings in and throughout everything! :-)

God's Grace.

I can imagine how disappointing it must be to expect to be feeling better and then feel so badly. I hope the antibiotic kicks in quickly and PD feels better soon.

Dear Pilot Mom,
sorry to hear about Pilot Dad needing more antibiotics. I think it is a wonder though, if he can work 4 hours a night after that long and rough radiation treament he has neen through.
It might be wise to hurry slow!!
I have just taken two antibiotic cures. I was aware that I had to take pills to avoid getting stomach problems from good" bachtaerias being destroyed, but guess what? I got thrush in my throat.
Now I'm on a two weeks cure to get rid of the thrush.
I think I have to double my prayers for Pilot Dad and you.
Good luck with new windows. It's a burdon less when these ought to do things are done.
We have 80 metres of hedges that should have been cut before the autumn storms.
Sometimes one just have to let things be undone. We're leaving for a short trip to England Sunday, better use our strength on that.
Thanks for being such a faithful prayer. I know we all have gotten a lot of help and calm because of your prayers.
Yours Felisol

You are so right, Becky. It can be frustrating. It was such a relief for me to be able to get him to the doctor's so quickly. Thank you for praying!

Jules, he has! She is a great doc and so we do feel like she knows what she is talking about. So far, in all our visits she has been spot on. As for the weather...I'm sending it on...just be patient! ;) I've enjoyed it soooo much!

Corry, so good to hear from you again. Are you feeling better now? I hope so! Thank you for your prayers on our behalf!

Thanks Jennifer! I need to get back over to your place real soon. I have been preoccupied here lately but I should be able to drop in for a wee visit real soon!

Felisol! "It might be wise to hurry slow." There is so much good solid wisdom in that one sentence, my friend! Through this whole cancer ordeal PD has had thrush 3 times. When we start messing with those bacterias we can get ourselves in big trouble, you know?! I'm so sorry to hear you are experiencing thrush. It isn't fun at all! Enjoy your time in England! Will you be seeing Serina? I'm continuing to pray...

yes, when one is already not feeling great, it's hard to diagnose the underlying problem! we were just down that road with leo 2 weeks ago ...

i'm so glad he was soon quickly!! and since it's bacterial - then the antibiotics should be doing their job!

((hugs)) and blessings to you!

Dear Pilot Mom,
The wheel chair story touched me deeply.
What a warm hearted man Pilot Dad is.
A man worthy fighting for!!
I will not see Serina until last week of Septembre. Then there's autumn vacation.
You can understand my longing.
Gunnar has linked our machines so we can chat on video Skype.
We've just done that for an hour..
But I'm still longing.
Almost ruined Gunnar's screen when I wanted to touch her chin..
We'll leave for London only the two of us. Thought I might see Jim and Mrs. Jim over there..
