Friday Feast

Appetizer
Name 3 things that you think are strange.
Eating sushi, facial piercings. It must be too late and I am having a brain cloud because I'm not coming up with a third thing. That in itself is strange...does it count? Lol!

Soup
What was the last ceremony you attended?
A wedding. One thing the couple did different, which we had never seen, was after they were pronounced man and wife, etc., he carried her down the aisle.

Salad
What is one lesson you have learned in the past year?
It was reinforced to me how God equips us when He calls you to do a particular job. I was continually awed by Him as I watched Him provide and sustain our son as he went through his pilot training in the Air Force. Over and over again I saw how He provided the skill, the wisdom, the knowledge and ability to be able to accomplish what He had called him to do.

Main Course
Tell us about one of your childhood memories.
My brother (who was a Downs) and I were going to go out to eat for dinner. He loved McDonalds so we went there all the time when he had a choice. This one time, I didn't want to go there. I decided we should go to Burger King. But he really insisted on going. So I thought for a minute and then I told him *ahem* cough, cough* blush* that just like other businesses where people get to go on vacation, McDonalds had people who got to go on vacation. (Now, I did not say that they were closed for vacations...but, I did allude that someone might be on vacation.) He looked at me like, "Oh, I never realized that. Well, since McDonalds is on vacation let's go to Burger King." The next day was Sunday and we had to drive right by McDonalds on our way to church. I didn't think a thing of it. He and I are sitting in the back seat as I we stop at the red light (wouldn't you know it) right next to...yep, McDonalds. He takes one look and says, "Oh, look! McDonalds is back from vacation!" At which time my mom and dad both say, "What?" I had to fess up and explain. It's been a big joke in the family ever since....*blush*

Dessert
If you could extend any of the four seasons to be twice as long as normal, which season would you want to lengthen?
I would have to choose Fall and Spring. I think I like them equally. If I had to absolutely choose one then maybe Fall because it has Indian Summer.

Anna Claire

Let me introduce you to Anna Claire! (pictures will follow when proud Aunt receives them.) She was born at 3:09 pm this afternoon in VA, weighing in at 8 lbs. 11 ounces, and 20 1/2 inches long. Now, isn't that just the perfect girl to be born on March 28, EVER? :D Her four big brothers are so happy to have a sister! Finally! When I receive photos you can count on me posting... oh yes, and the baby did not aspirate! Yea! Praise the Lord!!!

A baby is on the way!!!!!

Stay tuned! There is a baby on the way!!! My niece is in the hospital. They broke her water and things have begun happening. Pray, because there is perconium (sp?) in the fluid and they don't want the baby to aspirate like her second child did. Thanks! I'll update you once SHE/he arrives!!! :D

Juggling!

This video is pretty amazing. The guy's name is Chris Bliss and he is juggling to music. Be sure to watch all the way to the end. I think you will enjoy it. Click HERE for the video and turn your sound on.

Anything....at all.....

I really just need to post something....anything...so I don't have my previous post be my first post. Does that make any sense at all?

I've had a busy day. Hubby and I had an appointment this morning up in another town, at 9 am. Having an appt that early meant that we had to leave by 8:15 am to be on time. Ugh...but we made it only to find out the doctor had a skiing accident on Saturday and couldn't make it in this morning. They had tried calling but we had already left.

So, what can we do? Well, we came back home and made a stop to pick up dog food. Then we went to get the car washed before our ticket expired. After the wash we went to return a couple of DVD's and stopped at the grocery store to pick up some grapes and oranges which were on sale. After that we headed home so I could get my wash going while hubby finished up his Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) answers.

Then it was time for the Physical Therapist to arrive to meet my mom. He's very nice and thorough. I think they will work well together. Today was just getting all the paper filled out. Whew! Wednesday will be an actual therapy day. Yea!!

After he left I had to get the bed made with the clean sheets for hubby to get his nap in before going to work tonight. Then Nana and I headed out to eat dinner.

Of course, in the middle of all my mundane things we are waiting on a phone call telling us our neice has gone into labor and the baby is on the way! Well, no phone call came today. *sigh* Maybe tomorrow (Tuesday) will be the big day! I hope so. It's supposed to be a little girl...after 4 boys. We're holding our breath....well, maybe just taking shallow breaths while we wait. ;)

Now, it's bedtime. For once I'm going to bed early!!! And, hopefully, I won't wake up coughing at 3 am!!!!

Catch ya on the flip side..... :D

Happy HNT?

I'm going to open myself up to show my ignorance here. Can any of you out there in Blogland tell me what "Happy HNT" stands for/means? I've thought and thought (and you thought that was a forest fire near you?) but cannot fathom what it means. Please enlighten this poor old woman please!!! :) Lol!

First Friday Feast

Both Carol at She Lives and Dawn at All About Fun and Life had the Friday Feast. I decided to jump in and give it try. Be gentle with me, this is my first Friday Feast. ;)

FRIDAY FEAST

Appetizer
How would you describe your personal comfort zone? I'm not sure what this is asking....does this mean, Am I a touchy-feeling type person who likes people to be up close and personal when we talk? Well, no. I mean I like to be close but not so close I have to step back and adjust my bi-focals, you know what I mean? If it means how much attention do I want focused on "me", well, that's different. I'm really shy so if it is to draw "everyone's attention" to me....nope...I like to be in the background. I'd die of embarrassment. That's why yesterday was SO embarassing! If it is regarding blogging comments...well, I like comments as well as the next person. Let me re-phrase that, I'm a closet "Comment Lover". :)

Soup
What is your favorite tree? Any tree that has flowering blossoms on it in the spring. I also like Aspens in the fall, and I love a beautiful old oak or maple tree.

Salad
List 3 foods you'd like to include in your dinner plans for tonight. I absolutely LOVE Olive Garden salad, Vienersnitzel, Chocolate Lasagna Cake at Olive Garden.

Main Course
What is the best advice you've ever been given, but didn't heed?
Gee, this is a difficult one for me. I think because if it was really great advice I would want to heed it. Unless it was during my teen years....that's it...take more math courses! My response? Oh, I don't need to do that because I won't ever have a job that only deals with math....I'm going into something dealing with English...teaching, special ed, speech pathology or anything along those lines. I would never be an accountant! What did I end up doing? Being an accountant, without taking those extra math courses. Scary thought, isn't it? Lol!

Dessert
On a scale of 1-10 (10 being highest), how much attention do you feel comfortable receiving from others? Hmmm. This makes me think I didn't answer the Appetizer correctly. Well, I guess 6 or 7. I like one-on-one conversations where you each share back and forth. That way it isn't focused all on one person. How fun would that be? That's like saying, "Well, that's enough talking about me, what do you say about me?"

You can do your Friday Feast here or on your blog.

Computer workings....

I was visiting over at Joe's Jottings and he had taken the time to show us computer illiterates exactly how the inner workings of our computer function. I thought maybe it should reach a wider audience of illiterates so I am including the "inner" site here.

My day....

Nana and I had a good day, well, for the most part it was a good day...there was that teeny little moment...but, I'll come back to that...

It's a beautiful spring day! Nana took her coat but did not wear it once! My mom is always cold. If she thinks she sees a branch moving outside then it automatically drops at least 10 degrees. Lol! We finally got off late morning and I stopped for gas and then the bank to cash a check before hitting the freeway.

Traffic was light, the sun was shining, I was in a great mood! Nothing, absolutely nothing could change my mood! Weeellll...there was....not just yet....

Ever since 9-11 security has been very tight to get on an Air Force Base. I'm not complaining, it should be tight. Normally we take my mother's car because she has the base sticker etc on it and we can just breeze through the check point. However, it is a monstrous sized car to drive, more importantly, to park. She has a 1990 Linc*ln Town car. Comfortable? Yes! But, I hate to drive and park it. And so often she doesn't go with me when I go up to the base so I would much rather prefer driving my sporty S*turn.

The last time I was up there (at the base) we had to drive my car because her battery was dead. But for me to get my car on base I have to stop and get a pass for the car. It is such a hassle. The people are nice but still, you have to fill out all the paper work and usually you have to wait in line....you catch my drift. Well, the last visit the nicest young man gave me paper work to fill out so I could get an "extended pass" to use for my car which would be good for a year. He clued me in on not filling it out, at least her signature, until she could be with me. That way it would be current from that date on....Well, today was the day! So that was our first stop.

I left Nana in the car and went in with her I.D., my I.D., and all the paperwork for the car. The nicest young man helped me. I didn't even have to hardly wait! Anyway, I digress...His name is Ryan. We get all the paper work filled out and I take the form out to the car for Mom to sign. I bring it back in and Ryan has me sign at the appropriate spot and then laminates the card. It shows my I.D. on one side and my car info on the other. Super! I'm so excited because I've wanted one of these for 6 years...the whole time my mom has been living with us.

We leave the building and pull out into the lane to go through the gate check. I hand my *new* card and they let us right through! Our next stop is the clinic to drop off Nana' new Rx's at the pharmacy. As she is gathering up all her paperwork and getting her I.D. card out for me I take a look at my new card. Oh no! Ryan put my old address on...the address where I used to live 6 years ago...not my current one (which is clearly stated on the back of my driver's license).

By now, it is lunch time so Mom and I decide to go eat at our favorite Mexican restaurant while the Rx's are being filled. I remind her that when we come back on base I need to stop at the building again to tell them they have the wrong address. After a delightful lunch we head back to the base and I stop and run in to speak to Ryan. "Oh, that's okay," he says. *Now, just an aside here...but, what does this say about security?* I'm sure he just didn't want to go through the time to correct it and then laminate again...whatever.

We head back out and go through the gate check again and turn toward the clinic. I pull in and park. After making sure I have my letter of authorization to pick up her meds, her ID card, my two ID cards I head in. My day is still going great!! I did not even have to wait in line at the pharamacy pick up window! I know....it is unusual, but today was just my day! What can I say?

I sign for the meds, gather up all 3 forms of ID and put them in my purse. I run back out and get in the car. It's only 2:30 and I am now off base and ready to turn towards home!

Nana: When you get a minute, I still have my purse open so I can put my ID card back in.
Me: *a small sigh* Sure, wait till I stop at the light.

I stop. I open my purse. I reach in to my wallet and....I set my wallet down, I look in my purse...no cards! NO CARDS!!! How can this be? I make my turn, get over so I can flip a U-turn and head back to the base. However, I cannot get back on base because I have no picture ID, not even my mother's. So, I go back to Ryan. For. the. THIRD. time.

I walk in, he looks up...by this time people should think we must be best friends! I tell him, "I have a major problem."
Ryan: What can be so major? I remember doing all your paperwork."
Me: *blush*blush* [major moment of dying with embarassment] "Well, you see, Ryan, it's like this. I went and picked up the meds for my mother but I left her ID card, my driver's license, and the gate ID card/pass at the window of the pharmacy when I had to show all the ID. I failed to get them back before I left with her meds. Then I proceeded to drive off base until I realized that I didn't have the cards with me. How do I get back on base?" *weak smile*
Ryan: "Do you have any form of picture ID on you?"
Me: "No, I have NOTHING with my pic on it, and, of course, I don't even have my MOTHER'S picture ID card. They are ALL at the pharmacy window."
Ryan: "Well, that IS a problem. For without a picture ID they will NOT let you on base, no matter what."
Me: "I understand that. In the meantime, how do I get my ID's back?"
*I'm sure he is thinking, "Why me?"*
Ryan: "Let me see what I can do." *he leaves to talk with the Security Officer/boss then returns to me.
Ryan: "Come on, I'll get you on base...I'll drive you to the clinic so you can get your cards."
Me: "Oh my goodness! Aren't you the nicest person...." followed by more stumbling, apologetically trying to thank him while not sounding/nor looking like an idiot....
Me: Let me just stop at my car and let my mother know where I am going." I do, and undo her seatbelt, in case she had to get out of the car. During the time I was in the car, she never really heard me well enough to know which woman/where had the cards...so I explained more clearly and then went and got in Ryan's car.

He gets me on the base with his pass and takes me up to the clinic. Pulls up...let's me out..."I'll be right back," I called as I got out.

I run in, and AGAIN, no one at the pick up window! It's the same lady..."I left my 3 ID cards here just a short while ago....my mother *______* and my 2 cards *______*.
Lady: "No, they aren't here. If they were, they would be *right here*.
Me: "You don't think you would have moved them so they would not be in your way?"
Lady: "No. I bet you put them in the sack."
Me: "No, I never opened the sack...it's stapled and I just gave it to my mother unopened."
Lady: "Have you checked all your pockets in your purse?"
Me: *frantically taking EVERYTHING out of my purse, AGAIN.... "Yes, I've checked everywhere, including my wallet..."
Lady: "Well, they must be in your car."
Me: *stomach in MAJOR KNOTS! *oh no.....*
I walk back out to Ryan's car where he has been patiently waiting...
If you think I was embarrased before...that was nothing compared to NoW!
Ryan: "Got them?"
Me: "Um, ah, No, they weren't there...would you mind driving by that parking space over there...the handicapped one? Maybe I had them in my hand and I dropped them..." *a weak sigh*
Ryan: "No problem...." *The guy is just way too nice*
*Of course, no cards are on the ground*
I begin explaining how I took everything out for the lady *and demonstrating for Ryan exactly what I had done*....how I had checked every pocket and side part there was in my purse, how I had looked EVERYWHere....oops! What's this?
*Blush* BLUSH***** Was I embarassed before? Not on your life! Was I EMBARASSED NOW? You can bet your bottom dollar I was!!!! I looked at Ryan and apologized PROFUSELY!!! It's not like I have a head of blond hair...I mean...really! I told him, "Well, I guess you'll have a funny story to tell your family tonight at dinner! Just explain you had this "old" woman, over 50, who obviously had reached her mental capacity limit...not just for the day but probably for the whole year!"

Ryan very graciously said, "Well, it's just my wife and I, and yes, I'll probably tell her...but it's really okay...I did get to leave the office for a nice break..."

We drove back to the guard house and I got out, again thanking him over and over again, still BLUSHING....and then got in the car to explain to my Mom how I had the cards all along! *sheesh*

Pilot update...

Pilot has now moved and settled in to his new state. It's different from the coast but he isn't too far from the Oz*rk Mtn range...which, of course, are really hills to him. ;) Once settled in his apartment he managed to find a little bit of time to sight see this past weekend. Yesterday (Tuesday) was his first day at *work*. He came home with a truck load of books. But, I think, after having so much time off he is ready to buckle down and get on with this next phase. After all, he wants to get back up in the air! Isn't that where any pilot desires to be? ;) I kind of miss having him in TX where so many of my blogging friends live. I don't know, it kind of made it seem like he really wasn't too far away...or something like that.... Lol!

Busy Day...

Today was a busy day. In between loads of clothes washing I managed to have lunch with a friend and her daughter who is home from college on Spring break. Another friend joined us, too, and it was a nice time to get caught up with everyone. After lunch, I ran to the bank, stopped at the grocery store for more eggs, returned a couple of movies and stopped to pick up a Subw*y sandwich for hubby before finally getting back home.

Once home I began another load of wash, this time sheets. And, I helped Nana to finish getting ready so we could leave for her doctor's appt. She is going to begin having PT 2 or 3 times a week for her legs and feet. Hopefully, it will help to strengthen her so she won't be so unsteady when she walks.

After the visit to the doctor we went to R*d Lobst*r for dinner. She really loves to eat there. Since I don't like fish (yick) I always get their Azt*c Chicken which is very good. But when she likes to go there every week, it can get kind of old. ;) What we don't do in the name of love! :)

Tomorrow I take her up to Hill AFB to get her new Rx's filled. I'm sure she will want to eat at a favorite Mexican restaurant. I love Mexican food and we only eat at this particular restaurant when we go to Hill. It should be fun. At least the weather will be a beautiful spring day! No snow in the forecast!!! Yea!!!! I am so ready for spring flowers!

Why We Need Friends....

This sums it up pretty well on why we need friends...Lol!

A Time for Renewal....

Sometimes, we need a housecleaning of the heart. ~ Catherine Marshall

The good Lord intends that His children lead joyous lives filled with abundance and peace. But sometimes, as we can all attest, abundance and peace seem very far away. It is then that we must turn to God for renewal, and when we do, He will restore us.

Have you "tapped in" to the power of God, or are you muddling along under your own power? If you are weary, worried, fretful, or fearful, then it is time to turn to a strength much greater than your own.

The Bible tells us that we can do all things through the power of our risen Savior, Jesus Christ. Our challenge, then, is clear. We must place Christ where He belongs; at the very center of our lives.

Are you tired or troubled? Turn your heart toward God in prayer. Are you weak or worried? Make the time to delve deeply into God's Holy Word. When you do, you'll discover that the Creator of the universe stands ready and able to create a new sense of wonderment and joy in you.

With the Lord....

Gayla'a mother went home to the Lord early this morning. Please pray for Gayla and her family as they adjust to life without her Mom. Pray for strength over the next few days as they take care of the necessary arrangements for her funeral. May the Lord cradle Gayla in His arms, pouring out His comfort and love on her during this time of loss. Feel free to visit over at Journey of the Heart to offer your condolences to Gayla and her family.

Please Pray...

Many of you know Gayla over at Journey of the Heart. The end is drawing near for her mother and I know she would appreciate your prayers today. Please, as the Lord brings her to your mind, lift Gayla and her family up before His throne of grace. Thank you....

Maintaining Perspective...

Even if you are the most thoughtful person, you may, from time to time, lose perspective. It happens on those days when life seems out of balance, and the pressures seem overwhelming. What's needed is a fresh perspective, a restored sense of balance ...and God.

If a temporary loss of perspective has left you worried, exhausted, or both, it's time to readjust your thought patterns. Negative thoughts are habit forming, but, thankfully, so are positive ones. With practice, you can form the habit of focusing on God's priorities and your possibilities. When you do, you'll spend less time fretting about your challenges and more time praising God for His gifts.

So why don't you begin today, and every day hereafter, pray for a sense of balance and perspective. And remember, your thoughts are intensely powerful things, so handle them with care!

The proper perspective creates within us a spirit of reaching outside of ourselves with joy and enthusiasm. ~Luci Swindoll

When you and I hurt deeply, what we really need is not an explanation from God but a revelation of God. We need to see how great God is; we need to recover our lost perspective on life. Things get out of proportion when we are suffering, and it takes a vision of something bigger than ourselves to get life's dimensions adjusted again. ~Warren Wiersbe

Losing it...

I'm afraid I'm losing my mind. The only thing I have going for me is that it (my mind) is enclosed in my brain. I have spent the last little bit searching for things which I have obviously misplaced. I say "obivious I" because my dear hubby is sleeping and Pilot is no longer living at home. I began looking for my pork which I bought the other day for a new recipe I'm making today. I went out to the garage where I have my second refrigerator. Not there. I came back to the kitchen and looked in that refrig. Not there. I begin thinking back...did I actually get it out of the bag? If not, I've thrown it away. Hubby asked me to look for two packs of gum we bought the other day. Can't find them anywhere. "Are they in your purse, by chance?" he asked me. I look, no, they aren't there. Well, my pork was out in the refrig in the garage. If it had been a snake it would have bit me. And, the gum? In my purse...yep. I went back a looked again and there they were. How I missed them I do not know. But, the real winner? I couldn't find my cordless phone. I looked everywhere that I thought it would be. Finally I resorted to pushing the "find me" button which led me to the kitchen. I looked and looked and couldn't find it. Later, I open the door to get an item out of the refrig and sitting there, nestled on the bottom shelf next to the tea, grape juice and left over casserole is the phone. When did I leave it there? And, more importantly, why?

This isn't the first time this type of stuff has happened. I've pulled out my dishrag from my purse when I was shopping...meant to pull out my wallet. I've put my Christmas gift tags and ribbon in the freezer, unbeknownst to me. I accused Pilot of having one of my reference books (we have a lot of the same ones)...well, I didn't really 'accuse', I just asked him if he had borrowed it. After a number of months...almost a year, I found it. I loaned it to a new Christian. But, in the meantime, I went and bought the book again. Not once, not twice but THREE times. I now have four copies of this book!!! Really, that isn't all that bad because it is out of print now so I'm glad I have all these copies! Yes, I did call up Pilot and, ahem, told him I had found the book etc...and, I did apologize for even thinking in the dark recessess of my mind that he might be associated in any way with the disappearance of the book. Let me just say, "I much prefer chocolate to humble pie." Of course, these were many years ago....I was hopeful they might have been just a dream but after the latest episodes, I don't really think they were dreams. *sigh*

Just pondering....

Hmmm, I wonder. As Christ worked in the carpenter shop among all the 'stuff', like the saws, planes, wood chips, sawdust, and nails...as He used the nails, do you wonder if He thought ahead to the nails/spikes that would one day pierce Him?

PILOT....

....has left the building."

It was a wonderful visit, too short, of course. The phone rang around 10 am on Thursday and when I answered it was Pilot asking to speak to Pilot Dad. On any other morning, I would have stayed on the line to talk but I wanted to get in the shower. I handed the phone off to Pilot Dad who was sleeping. When I got out of the shower PD was gone. I just assumed he couldn't sleep after talking with Pilot and maybe he had gone outside to play with the dog before trying to go back to sleep. Little did I know he was on his way to the airport to pick up Pilot. So I finish getting ready and I am sitting at my computer desk having my quiet time when I hear the garage door close in my laundry/mud room. Then I hear Pilot Dad's footsteps as he comes down the stairs. I haven't looked up but then PD puts his hand on my shoulder and at that point I look up and rather than seeing PD I see PILOT! PILOT STANDING RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF ME!!! My goodness, he may be the death of me yet!!! I am not sure if my heart will be able to withstand many more of these absolute shock surprises but I'm willing to keep trying rather than go without! ;)

I guess you figured out why there has been light posting over the past few days! ;) My 'tank' is filled up again and I 'think' I can make it until Christmas! We'll see!
