Laughter is good....

I am awake with a coughing spell. They don't seem to be fully gone yet. :( While I am trying to get the coughing under control it helps to have a smile. Otherwise, my focus would be on me and the lack of sleep...then would come grumbling. Smiling is a MUCH better choice! Posted by Picasa

Claire, I can't help the nurse in me...how long have you had the cough, what have you taken, have you seen a doctor, do you have a chronic respiratory condition or sinus problem? Also, do you cough more at a particular time of day or associated with a particular activity? I may be able to help you or at least point you in the right direction. I just did a major presentation on COPD and Respiratory Diseases for work so I am pretty "up" on the latest and the greatest.

Pam, thanks for dropping in! Welcome!

I've had it since the 10th. I did go to the doc and as of Monday night they put me on an antibiotic. After they did that I improved greatly! The cough is part of the 'whatever' but is also part of my asthma. It has also improved greatly. It's just when I'm sleeping 'stuff' just pools and I awake coughing. I try to just work through it but sometimes I break down and take my cough syrup which has codeine in it. I'm now going through the day and on to bed without having to take any cough med.

I just went back for a follow-up visit with the doc on Thurs (17th) and he was pleased with my progress. Thanks so much for asking Pam! You're a sweetie! :)

LOL! That was cute!

Do you take zinc? Use Zicam? Everytime I got sick it used to settle in my chest and I would cough for months. When I started sucking on zinc lozenges my colds or whatever got better faster and I didn't get the chest crud anymore. The lozenges are gross, but I've discovered that zicam works just as well for me. It's a spray or gel that you put up your nose. No taste, no unpleasant side effects.

Not that I don't care about you still not feeling well (cause you know I do!) but I'm just rolling on the floor laughing at that cartoon! That has Gracie written all OVER it!

yes, the cartoon was funny. i think you should drink a fifth of wild turkey, and you'll forget all about the cough. you will have other things to think about like possible institutionalization, and what not

(i'm kidding)

Yeah, I figured that it's all rolled into the same thing. Probably some post nasal drip that builds up while you sleep, starts you coughing which in turn accelerates the inflammatory cycle associated with your asthma and if left untreated...turns into bronchitis. It's due to the uncontrolled coughing. You may want to ask your doc for nasal spray called Flonase if you haven't already tried it. You can also try some over the counter stuff to dry up your sinuses. As far as the cough medicine goes, you don't need the codeine anymore. Just get some guafenisin. It's pretty innocuous stuff, just a mucolytic agent. And of course, stay hydrated, eat yogurt while on antibiotics, take all the antibiotics etc. And it wouldn't hurt to take zinc and vitamin C with your multivitamin. Sorry, just can't put the nurse away at the end of the day!! Hope you are feeling better and I hope I am not being too pushy or forward!

Pam,I already do Flonase and the Guifenesin with something along with clarenex for all my allergies plus my allergy shots. I've begun sudafed to help open my ear. So really, I do think I am on the mend. But it is dealing with sinuses because I still have the headache. I will call my allergist on Monday after Jim gets home from his surgery. After all, I have to be 100% for our big trip in DEC!!!! :)
