Attributes of God...

Just what is an attribute of God? God has revealed some of His personal qualities or characteristics to us and these are called God's attributes. It is something that is true of God. God's attributes are unalterable. They do not change.

Let's look at some verses from God's Word and see what we can discover about God!

Deuteronomy 7:9, "Know therefore that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindess to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments."

Lamentations 3:22-23, "The LORD's lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness."

1 Chronicles 29:11-12, "Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and majesty, indeed everything that is in the heavens and the earth; Yours is the dominion, O LORD, and You exalt Yourself as head over all. Both riches and honor come from You, and You rule over all, and Your hand is power and might; and it lies in Your hand to make great and to strengthen everyone."

Psalm 62:11, "Once God has spoken; Twice I have heard this: That power belongs to God."

Psalm 90:2, "Before the mountains were born or You gave birth to the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God."

Deuteronomy 33:27, "The eternal God is a dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms; and He drove out the enemy from before you, and said, 'Destroy!'"

Psalm 136:1, "Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, For His lovingkindness is everlasting."

Psalm 139:2-4, "You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar. You scrutinize my path and my lying down, and are intimately acquainted with all my ways. Even before there is a word on my tongue, behold, O LORD, You know it all."

John 21:17, "He said to him third time, 'Simon, son of John, do you love me?' Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, "Do you love me?" And he said to Him, "Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You." Jesus said to him, "Tend My sheep."'

Psalm 139:7, "Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?"

Daniel 4:35, "All the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing. But He does according to His will in the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of earth; and no one can ward off His hand or say to Him, 'What have You done?'"

2 Chronicles 20:6, "And he said, 'O LORD, the God of our fathers, are You not God in the heavens? And are You not ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? Power and might are in Your hand so that no one can stand against You.'"

Malachi3:6, "For I, the LORD, do not change; therfore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed."

Hebrews 13:8, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."

John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life."

1 John 4:16, "We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him."

These are just a smidgeon of the verses in the Word about God. Do you feel you could trust a God like this? Why or why not?

Is there an issue confronting you right now? Look at the verses above and ponder them in light of your issue. Look at your circumstance or problem through the character of God. How might you be able to specifically relate these truths of God's attributes to your personal situation?
We need to practice looking at the daily joys, frustrations, and irritations of our lives through the character of God.
